The Evolution of C4BOOM

What is C4BOOM, and where did it come from?

At first we were just four words: Creation, Communication, Collaboration and Culture.  Four C’s that felt integral to the way we think and the way we resonate.

We are still those same four words, but we are also much more. We have grown beyond the walls we built ourselves and now explore beyond our own self-imposed limitations.

When my eponymous brand Alexander Lewis, closed, I knew I didn’t want to just scrap everything I had spent years creating. Instead, I sold all the basic plain fabrics I had left over, and I kept all the special jacquard woven cloths I had designed and woven in the UK, imagining one day a eureka moment would tell me what to do with them.  Along came the first lock down in 2020, and so much free time meant my mind could wander and explore creative possibilities. I began to play with the fabric pieces I had at home and decided there was a way to make use of the meters and meters of gorgeous cloths I had stored away. This is how R3 came to be. The most precious luxury of all, time, allowed me to find my creativity again. You can find out more about R3 on its project page here.

As the months passed, and I looked for more ways to be creative, I contacted my old friends at Corgi Hosiery with an idea to make some delicious cashmere blankets. Pure, and undyed natural white, as soon as I saw them I knew the irreverence of tie dying them was the only way I could imagine them existing. Then playing with the colour palettes I always come up with, I thought there was more than one way to work with Knit. Starting off as just a blanket and slowly becoming a small array of items, Fuwa Fuwa [fluffy] came into being.  A confluence of British craftsmanship and Nipponese reverence.  On Fuwa Fuwa [fluffy]’s project page here, you can learn more about these delightful products.

Most people would stop at one idea, some people think two is enough, but that is not how my mind works, and it never has. I have always been a knitwear person since I started my own eponymous brand in 2011. Knitwear found me, and grew on me, and so whether I liked it or not, there was always going to be a knitwear brand eschewing forth of its own accord. But reminding myself I already had two projects on the go, and keeping things as simple as possible, I wanted to remain focused and specific.  Is there anything more focused than Cardigan Knitwear? We shall see where that takes this studio down the road. For now, hand made in the UK and hand embroidered in London, there are 3 styles every wardrobe needs right here.

Starting with 3 ideas, and one on the way, it feels like a growing family. Three ideas to water and feed and grow. They all come from the same well, they all feed the same passions, they all feel right. But there are endless other ideas we can’t wait to explore. That is where our creative studio comes in. We think about creation, collaboration, communication and culture, ALL THE TIME. You can’t stop us when we get started.  Sometimes we feel so full of ideas we could explode. And that is why we call ourselves C4Boom. See what we did there? Booming with creativity.

But napping can yield the most amazing ideas too, just ask Ryo...
